yeah, I had to resurrect an old phone to go to a concert last week. It’s possible I’ll never go to one again. I wouldn’t have bought the tickets had I known about that bullshit.
In case you’re curious, the Nokia flip phone I got my daughter is the Nokia 2780 Flip.
It no longer runs WhatsApp, actually. The new version of the OS (KaiOS which is a fork of the dead Firefox OS) broke compatibility and Meta apparently decided to not bother with supporting it.
Funny enough, Nokia started making cheap flip phones and some others in that form factor again. My daughter asked to replace her smartphone with one of the flip phones. It was only $70, so I got her one. It’s build quality is what you would expect, but it works and has GPS at least.
Google can get fucked. I feel like there will be a nontrivial market for de-googled or older and unlocked Android phones after this. If they manage to kill off custom roms with their previous AOSP rug pull I’ll go back to using a (subpar) Linux phone or maybe even one of those cheap flip phones.

“Second brain” is a term that has been around a while, but it does get used by a lot of people that are all in on AI these days so i totally see your skepticism. My issues with these second brain/knowledge base/etc tools is that I never end up going back to them to actually look up knowledge. Maybe that is why the AI people are all over it, because most people never use the actually notes they make. Either way, I found it best to just stop using the tools or leave myself semi-structured text notes with good file names.
To be fair, there wasn’t really much “gaming news” in existence back then. One only heard about game flops when it became so notable that regular news picked it up as was the case when E.T. and well the whole existing console industry when Atari imploded.
I think we are living in the Star Trek universe, but we’re just getting to the Bell Riots shown in DS9. No word on if we get much past it.
It’s not particularly high end, but I fairly recently bought a Mixxtape MP3 player for $60 new and it works well and can play as a cassette. The gimmick is wacky (but does work), but I mostly got it because I had to switch to a phone without a headphone jack and I wanted something small and inexpensive.
Just throwing it in there that none of my Fiio DACs or amps help up over time, especially with the more portable models. Maybe the build quality is better on their higher end models, but I’m definitely not buying any more of their stuff.
Awesome, glad you like it so far. Also take a look at the plugins from the main menu. it comes with a bunch and most are disabled by default. It is also, if you are so technically inclined, relatively easy to write new plugins in Python.
Not the person you responded to, but on Linux, i think quod libet is the best for me. On Windows, (still) foobar2000.
Thanks for the tip, I did the code block as a quick edit because I knew it would at least work.
I have the FOSS version installed and I ended up buying a phone holder as well. Music playing apps can with with AA, but it looks like navigation doesn’t unless there is some trick I haven’t figured out.
Were you running the version on Google Play or the one from f-droid? I have a suspicion that the Google Play version has some extra sliminess that allows it to work with Android Auto.

I feel called out
Everything I’ve read is that they only offer accommodations to people during time of purchase, and even then you’re basically at the mercy of the venue. I’m going to call them and see what I can do, but I don’t have high hopes.
I have always enjoyed Burning Chrome by William Gibson. It’s OG cyberpunk sci-fi, it includes the Johnny Mnemonic short story the 90s movie was (loosely) based on.
