the results of a vote will always be slightly off from people’s real opinions, because their voting may be swayed by emotion in the moment, or turnout may be a bit skewed, or one of a thousand other factors. when you really want to be accurate with a vote, like for a decision that, if you get it wrong, could have major consequences, a supermajority may be necessary to be absolutely sure that the people are in favor of it
