The United States has paused a $40 billion technology agreement with Britain, officials said, following concerns in Washington over London’s approach to digital regulation and food standards.
Britain became the first country to agree in principle to lower some U.S. tariffs in May, but implementation has been slow. Talks on sectors such as steel stalled, though the two sides agreed a framework pharmaceutical deal earlier this month.
British ministers say the May tariff deal allowed higher U.S. beef exports without compromising UK standards and insist digital regulations and tax will not be negotiated away.

Basically, the US is impossible to negotiate with right now. Probably for quite some time to come, until they’ve been sufficiently humbled by the consequences of their actions. So anyone hoping for a meaningful trade deal that’s even slightly fair is going to be waiting for the condition “the United States learns humility”. Good luck on that.
Government satisfaction has remained steady since September, with 11% satisfied (-1 vs September) and 82% dissatisfied (n/c), net of -71.
At this point the Labour gov’t might no longer be working to attempt to redeem itself. Instead ram through unpopular, donor-friendly deals before their power expires.
