One of the best analysis of the situation I’ve encountered so far. Particularly at the 34:26 mark where Brian talks about China and the remaining administration in Venezuela and their difficult position in confronting the empire.

Another article.
Basically boils down to:
- US has very lethal force, that can do targeted attacks/kidnapping.
- All out invasion is not feasible for USA (check Afg, Iraq, VIetnam)
- It’s not a coup by his VP, that’s preposterous
- Revolution still continues
- Material support offered by Russia and China is not enough
- Maduro called for diplomacy before, that’s still the official position
- In the video they discuss the parallel between Russia and Germany during WW1, the same thing is emphasized in this article too.
In 1918, Lenin and the Bolsheviks famously signed the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk, ceding vast territories to imperialist Germany to save the infant Soviet Republic from annihilation. He was accused of selling out the revolution by the “left communists” in his party, but he compared such a compromise to that of giving up your wallet to an “armed bandit” in exchange for your life. This concession led to the breakup of the alliance with the Left Socialist-Revolutionaries who accused him of “treason.” The Left Socialist-Revolutionaries took up an armed struggle against the Bolshevik government, including an assassination attempt on Lenin as a “traitor to the revolution” that left him badly wounded in September 1918. Two months later, Germany surrendered and the Soviet Republic regained all the territory lost at Brest-Litovsk.
- Venezuela facing the same situation. Retreat today to advance tomorrow. (Offer big shares of PSUV to US corps)
- This kidnapping happened due to failed regime change, and US fragility to do ground invasion
As a tangent, I also heard USA tried to do naval blockade, but Venezuela circumvented it with the help of Russia. Blockade was not effective. (Again this is not mentioned in the article)
I hope the rest of Latin America learns from this otherwise this will be them
They didn’t learned from Arbenz, Allende and countless other examples, so they won’t also learn from this. Except Fidel and Che, they somehow learned after witnessing it just once, but this is the power of dialectical materialism, you won’t learn it from demsocs.
No, i don’t count Chavez here, while Venezuela is by far the most successful reformist project ever, after quarter of century they are still nowhere near even being AES and have to fight the kind of coup attempts for example Cuba is safe from basically every two years.
Yeah, pretty much. They made the same mistake as Bolivia did and they’re both suffering from it.
Like Marx said about the Paris Commune: if you don’t wage a class war the whole thing is going to go tits up.
