German federal prosecutors on Tuesday said they had launched a terrorism investigation into an arson attack on high-voltage cables that triggered a power blackout affecting about 45,000 households in Berlin.
Prosecutors said they were probing Saturday’s attack on suspicion of “membership in a terrorist organization, sabotage, arson and disruption of public services.”
…
The attack was claimed online by a far-left extremist group calling itself Vulkangruppe, or Volcano Group.
…
Berlin Mayor Kai Wegner condemned the attack, saying “suspected left-wing extremists knowingly put lives at risk, especially those of patients in hospitals, as well as the elderly, children and families.”
As of Tuesday, about 24,700 households and 1,120 businesses were still without power.

Berlin emergency services, supported by the army and charity groups, initially scrambled to help those affected to warm accommodation, including care home residents. Hotels, schools and sports centers were also used to supply shelter.
Emergency measures remain in place, with the German military providing logistic help and fueling emergency generators. Public swimming pools have been opened around the clock to allow residents to shower and warm up. About 20 schools remain closed, and public transport buses have been deployed as temporary warming shelters.
The Bundestag’s interior committee is set to receive a briefing on the attack later this week, as authorities continue to rule out foreign involvement and focus their investigation on domestic left-wing extremism.

The case and especially the group look weird to me. This is supposed to be a extreme-left/anarchist/eco-terrorist group. It is supposed to be active since the 2010s.
They were able to identify weakpoints in critical infrastructure multiple times now. So they must have a relatively large network. But officially nobody knows how big this group is or how they are organised. Nobody was able to catch any members.
Their targets are really inconsistent. Research Facilities, factorys, car dealerships and, like in this case, critical infrastructure. They seem to have no specific target, just society as a whole.
They have a volcano theme going. Nothing screams anarchism like volcanos on Iceland(?).
But the police and secret services are convinced that this is a genuine group. That the manifests are genuine.
This whole thing screams 90s movie eco-terrorist vibe, instead of a group organising around a specific goal. TBF there are people out there that have rage in them and they latch onto whatever ideology to justify living out that rage.
But come on, they want to raise class awareness, by turning the power off in the middle of winter.

Yes, yes, ignore the strangly worded letter of responsibility because “What must not be cannot be” as we say in Germany.
Just as surely it had to be the Turkish mafia and there couldn’t have been a trio of neonazis murdering people of foreign origin.
I can’t see what your comment has to do with the article.
The article makes no mention of the controversial letter(s) supposedly published by the “Vulkan” group. It shows signs of either heavy AI usage or bad translations. I.e. J.D. Vance’s name is spelled wrong and coincidentally in the way it would be written in Kyrillic.
As for my second remark I invite you to read about the utter failure of German police and intelligence services during the murders by the so called NSU. They failed to even consider a nazi motive right up till two of the perpetuators killing themselves. So German authorities fixated on the convenient answers has tradition.

This was a false flag attack btw.
