Yeah, okay. The US sent troops in and took the president of Venezuela — which sounds like an act of war to me — and they did nothing.

Hell, the US executed one of its own citizens on the street for trying to leave a situation she wasn’t involved in (I guess she saw something she wasn’t supposed to?).

So honestly, what are the Danes even gonna do? I’m not saying there’s nothing they can do. I’m saying they probably won’t, and if they do, it will not be very effective. They might be expecting NATO to have their back, but NATO isn’t gonna go up against the US.

Also, we’re well past “if.” Trump is batshit crazy, and he’s recently said he needs Greenland “for his mental health.” That tells me he’s not listening to reason and he’s telling the Joint Chiefs to get it done. They may be dragging their heels not wanting to piss off Denmark/NATO, but with the president pushing, it’s just a matter of time.

Multiple European nations have already sent members of their militaries to Greenland. Its not a large defense force, but it sends a very clear message that an attack on Greenland is an attack on Europe.

While the US has massive military power, they can’t stand in isolation. So the more support Europe shows, the less likely is leadership is to risk an attack that would likely jeopardize military treaties, trade agreements, and so much more.

The whole Greenland gambit is pretty reliant on the Danes caving and handing it over, and it’s pretty clear they have no interest in doing that.

I put “US troops withdraw from Ramstein while under fire by the Bundeswehr” on my bingo card early last year and didn’t expect my cynicism to be that accurate

Starting a war in Europe isn’t going to end well. It will rip USA and Europe to easily conquerable pieces and end super power era of USA.

I realise what community I’m in, so believe me I say this with respect… I hope Europe does not underestimate how stupid Donald Trump is and how loyal his followers are. He’s also pushing 80. He doesn’t care what state the US is in after he’s gone. And his followers think he’ll live forever.

Venezuela is not militarily allied to Denmark afaik. Why would they go to war over that?

Also the US murdering it’s own citizens has nothing to do with Denmark.

Most of european NATO members said they will support Denmark. It’s not just a question of NATO but European security. Anything done is better than just rolling over and letting them take it.
