US President Donald Trump's reelection has put civil rights under threat globally, Human Rights Watch warned. The NGO's report includes violations in Germany.

The year 2025 may come to be seen as a “tipping point” when democratic institutions were severely damaged and human rights suffered as a result, according to Human Rights Watch (HRW).

The global human rights system is in peril," wrote HRW executive director Philippe Bolopion. “Under relentless pressure from US President Donald Trump, and persistently undermined by China and Russia, the rules-based international order is being crushed.”

    I don’t like doomerism, but during the last year more and more parallels between Russia’s escalating totalitarianism and the USA’s escalating totalitarianism became apparent, easily recognizable, almost identical headlines sometimes.
    If they properly co-operated things could look pretty bleak for the rest of the world.
    But it seems both leaders are megalomaniac enough that it will never happen, at least not as equal partners.

    Let’s just hope that the hubris that got us into this will also be the end of this.
