Any thoughts, expiriences…?
$150 for a aluminium safety razor are you fucking kidding me? You can get a safety razor online for less than half that.
protip never buy anything you see advertised, especially on youtube
I hesitate to post this cause i’m bumping the post
I wet shave with a Muhle R89 and/or a Merkur 23C which are both on the mild side. I hear Henson razors are very high quality in their construction but they are also very mild. If you have very thick facial hair then there are better more aggressive razors on the market at a much better price.
additonally, most quality safety razors provide a smoother shave with less ingrown hairs and less razor burn when compared to their cartridge counterparts. -That is also partly dependent on the blade used. Some blades (like Derby) are notoriously dull, while others (such as Feather or Bic) are incredibly sharp. My personal preference is the Indian-Manufactured Gillette-Wilkinson Sword Blades. They’re moderately-sharp.
Nah, I like my Leaf razor handle with feather blades. I can basically use it like it’s a disposable.
I also have a Leaf razor handle with some single edge blades. The $5 pack of 100 Derby blades also fit my unbranded straight razor I got for like $15 20 years ago. They both work really well for specific things so long as that specific thing isn’t getting through airport security.
My grandfather was a barber and he gave me one of his 1960s era Gillette Safety razors. It’s a pretty cool mechanism on how you load and adjust the razor.
I have a vintage lady Gillette and some off brand safety razor as well. They’re nice but, I’m impatient lol.
I use it and I really like it. It has significantly improved razor burn for me, and is quite affordable. Unlike others in this thread, I’ve been satisfied with the blades.
I change the blade every single use because they are so cheap, and the experience is very smooth.
Huh, looks like AI advertisement, as well as the OP’s post. Prove that you are a real human by writing us a Perl module for detecting cheap blade replacement need.
I don’t know Perl—that’s the most human thing about me, lol.
I do like that razor though. 🤷♂️
I bought the titanium one from Henson and I like it a loooot.
This is an advertisement
We made it lemmy,we got big enough to get noticed
Blades are shit. Razor is great. I personally use my Henson with feathers.
I like their razor but I use other blades. I’ve had previous safety razors that had hinges to open the top part to put the blade in. Those were fine until I dropped them. My Henson razor though is just 3 aluminium pieces that screw into each other, so virtually indestructible.
Their FAQ answers my question.
Does the Henson use proprietary blades?
No, the Henson uses standard double edged safety razors you can buy anywhere.
I have one, I think it lives up to its claims and is worth the price. It is the only safety razor I’ve used that has comparable irritation and ease of use to a disposable razor. It’s particularly good for sensitive skin, and I’m significantly less likely to accidentally cut myself with it compared to my normal safety razor.
I assume you’re using their handle and their blades? If so, have you used other blades before for comparison? I go back and forth between a disposable razor and a safety razor with feather blades, but I always go back to disposable cartridge after the novelty wears off.
I just use cheap shark brand blades with it, as feathers in any safety razor seem to make it more prone to cut myself, they’re too sharp for my skin.
The Henson with cheap blades feels extremely close to a disposable, and it can be used in the same way with minimal thought, unlike a normal safety razor where you have to be careful with angle and pressure to avoid irritation or cuts.
Huh. I love feather because it is sharp, but then again my hair is pretty thick.
Been using theirs and razors for years now. It’s great. I don’t have any reason to switch. Especially since I got like 100 razors for ten bucks. I’m only like 15 in. It’s really nice to swap the razor whenever I want. Easy peasy
i think shaving is a thoroughly solved problem. ?
Mines been good. Does a way better job than any of my electric ones over the years. Blades are cheap enough compared to the Mach 7 with 18 blades that I can justify replacing the blade often enough to always get a good shave.
Just my 2 cents, but you could probably save some money on a different safety razor. I haven’t tried this specific razor; the one I used to use (I have a beard now) was about half the price and I was very satisfied with it.
I’ve had one for years. It’s perfect. Shaves far better than any other I have ever used, and blades are dirt cheap. I bought one for all my kids as well. They also love it. And you can use any replacement blades you want. They just use the standard safety razor blades.
Yes I quite like it!
It’s a different experience from electric or disposable “five blade” razors. You have to take care of your skin before and after, you have to recognize when the blade needs changing, etc.
As for Henson specifically, the experience has been good. About 5% of the blades they sent with the razor are a bit funky and don’t align right. I toss those out. Otherwise if used right, it’s a very close shave, very accurate, smooth, and easy to use.
I’d say it was money I don’t regret spending. I use it every day and alternatives aren’t as good of an experience.
