I think the problem is “millimeter-wave beams of light to vaporize rock” being used to dig 12 mile deep holes all over the earth. I’ve never heard of such a thing and am skeptical.
Also, everyone knows if you dig too deep you find demons and other fun stuff.

Yeah, the dæmons make the whole thing very expensive. You’d have to contain them, regularly send kill squads, can’t dump their bodies on regular dumps (you’d basically have to use the pits of hell) and sometimes they become personal demons which are really annoying and hard to get rid of.

30 to 300GHz drill/vaporise rock haha good luck with 2 meters let alone 12 miles deep. After burning zillions of dollars they’ll settle for 2000m deep right next to some traditional geothermal in iceland and be very opaque about what tech they used to make the hole.

The deepest until today are 12,2 km in times of the cold war

But yes, geothermic energy is a good and sustainable resource, Iceland knows a lot of this. It is a good energy source for the most countries and without the need to go so deep, because also in less kms are enough heat to use for steam for the generators.
