India is aspired to be the blue water navy in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). To dominate the Indian Ocean Region, India has been maintaining an aircraft carrier fleet since 1961. India’s first aircraft carrier was “INS Vikrant,” which played a crucial role during the time of war in Bangladesh Liberation War. Now, India is maintaining the fleet of two aircraft carriers — INS Vikramaditya and indigenously built INS Vikrant. India plans to build its first nuclear power aircraft carrier, INS Vishal.
