Any mail is better with a public alias service, not only selfhosted. Because mailtracking is a very often used methode to track the user. This you can only avoid with an alias service. You can keep the content of your emails private, using a service such as Protonmail, Tutanota or other encrypted, or using selfhosted, but it does not change that your email address is practically unique and can be tracked throughout the network.
