    When you self-host, the government has to come to you for your data.

    I feel like this is going to become even more relevant in the future. Searching a private person’s house has some pretty high legal barriers in most countries, and usually you have some additional legal protection in the sense that you are not forced to incriminate yourself or your direct relatives.

    Furthermore if e2ee encrypted communication will require a government mandated backdoor in the future, then with your own server hosted at home you are not really effected by that as long as the communication does not go though larger corporate owned servers (like Matrix.org) that are forced to comply.
