I went through a phase where I would find good posts on reddit and then just copy the link and post here… but as of now, reddit is like 95% anti-Trump posts so it’s all noise. Lemmy is fairly noisy with that lately too but not as bad. I need to figure out a better way to filter out politics because it’s ruining online discussion even in non-political threads, somehow it devolves into “orange man bad” somehow at some point and it’s just tiresome going over the same topic over and over with the same talking points. Musk nazi, orange man bad… when you see it 50000000000 times it just gets old after a while, with RES I am able to filter out subs which helps immensely but I don’t think that’s possible here. But like r/pics, r/interestingasfuck, r/lotr, r/lego, r/technology, r/news, many many others… 90% political now, so the majority of the site is useless to me now. And it feels like it’s majority bots now, probably LLM-generated discussion through an API, dead internet theory is in full speed ahead mode.

I don’t think it’s possible in Lemmy, unless you use an app (might not be FOSS though?) that adds that functionality. I’m not sure which ones though - maybe check out Sync or Connect?

PieFed can do it innately, in multiple ways. First, in the new user wizard (or in your account anytime later) you can specify that you want to see posts mentioning “Trump” or “Musk” either never, a little, or have no filtering.

Second, in addition to the standard Subscribed and All feeds, PieFed offers categories of communities, like Reddit’s multi-reddit feature, so e.g. Arts & Crafts has no politics within it, though ofc News & Politics has nothing but:-D. The beauty of that is that with those, you could e.g. decide to not subscribe to any News or Politics communities, so that your Subscribed feed is empty of it, and yet still read the news as often as you like at the touch of a button. Those Feeds just became user customizable and shareable too.

The only other way to do that on Lemmy is to make a new account for every type of collection that you want, and then subscribe to the communities that you want each one to have. Which would get super annoying, super quickly:-).

Yep. I HATE Trump and Musk but for the love of God, keep politics in the relevant subs! Also ACCEPT DIFFERENCE OF OPINION. I go reddit to switch off from politics but even r/OutOfTheLoop is now all people spreading their political messages. Its so hostile to other views now.

its also hard to chime in agreement with those post without someone misconstrueing your statement about anti-trump and getting reported too. i had to filter out some posts/or ignore because the amount of TRUMP news, pro or anti. in R/ALL i filter alot of subs that way.

Makes me wonder if a social site could advertise a “bot-free” environment somehow. Some sort of verification system, one e-mail, one verification picture (handwritten note picture maybe, not face or anything.) And only 1 account per human, no bots… I feel like that’s going to have to happen eventually at the rate AI is going. Facebook is probably half-AI bots at this point already.
