“We want to reverse the mistake of the ‘traffic light’ and ban cannabis again,” Bavarian Health Minister Joachim Herrmann told the newspaper. The southern region’s Health Minister Judith Gerlach also criticized the legalization of cannabis for recreational purposes, saying the measure should be “withdrawn quickly and completely,”

Why do you think that? It’s a great topic for a culture war. If they need to divert attention from something more important, they’ll bring that up and that may force them to actually do it. It’s not like any of those weed-growers would ever vote for them either.

The CDU has shown that they are not necessarily firm on many of their previous positions from the election campaign, such as the Building Energy Act or the debt brake. I can’t imagine them pushing hard on such a minor talking point while they are in a coalition with one of the largest parties in support of the legalization. It’s just not worth it.

SPD is wavering on the topic anyway and current health minister Lauterbach was never a big supporter either, he did it largely because he wanted to keep the promise from the coalition treaty. From what I can tell, the supporters came mostly from the Greens, the socialdemocratic youth org, and the green youth org.

I’m not seeing that tbh. Pretty much every statement that the party has put out in regards to the CanG and the coalition talks has been in support of it. They moved it to the very end of the talks too. The most that will happen are some minor adjustments that both parties will be fine with. Nobody relevant to these talks is actually in full support of ending the legalization. The statements are just pandering.

Alright, let’s see, I may be wrong and we won’t have to wait too long until the coalition is formally agreed upon. For the moment, I still think the topic is not universally supported within SPD and it’s not a priority to them.
