Hi. Im very happy right now with smart launcher. But I would like something fully open source. I want something minimal, but that allows me to have desktop pictures, because I make my own wallpapers.

Also it would be good to create folders or apo categories.

Thank you.

I really like KISS launcher. I got tired of trying to arrange home screen app icons. For me, using the app history and searching for apps is much faster.

Yep. And being able to set it as the system assistant and open with the keyboard up is great when you don’t have google on your phone

As someone who is new to the FOSS world, what does an app launcher do and what makes one better than another?

An app launcher is basically your homescreen on an android smartphone. They are different in design and have sometimes different features like the KISS Launcher which has a search bar and doesn’t have any apps on the page itself. If you have an androur smartphone you can just try one and see if it feels better to you. I really enjoy the KISS Launcher too

I really like OpenLauncher! It’s nice looking and very responsive even on my very old phone. It does folder/category grouping on the desktop/dock, supports gestures and supports icon packs and color theming. I can’t set the wallpaper directly with OpenLauncher, but I usually set those with the gallery app and that works fine for me.

Unlauncher. At first it seemed a little… too empty for my tastes, but then I noticed how much time it saved me from my phone.

I ended up choosing Olauncher, which k think is based on that one and works the same way. I just wanna have my own wallapapers, and I like how smooth and clean it looks. And yeah, its actually amazing.

I agree! It’s been great so far. Though, I wish widget placement was more customisable and the search didn’t return results with alphabets across multiple tags. But except those minor things, it’s the best libre launcher out there.

I’ve tried Neo as well- its good, but it feels clunkier than KISS.

I still use Lawnchair. That pun never gets old. And I have yet to see a missing feature
