I think a huge problem for the fediverse is going to be these kinds of coordinated troll campaigns. It will be so easy for them to launder accounts through undermoderated instances that are federated with their targets.

The sad answer is that those displays exist to cut costs, not to make your ownership experience better.

Also the dealers want you to come to them for that CEL, and the companies don’t want to piss off the dealers.

They should undo this and just prosecute people who abuse the firmware
