Career politicians do follow the wind.
I support term limits for Congress to mitigate this and corruption in general.

Also, the last time I went to a cashier, because it was the one time I saw a long line at the self-check lane, I stood in the short line, I was third, while the cashier chatted up the customers, left the line to help another cashier with something and was generally very slow. I suspect they’re not required to be efficient anymore, and perhaps even encouraged not to be. I watched as the guy I would have been behind in the self-check line left the store while I was still second in line at the cashier.

I’m sure they were shown a staged demo of how the camera and “AI” catches people putting items in the bag without scanning and that convinced them the tech was good enough.
But, the scan camera check only catches people who aren’t trying to fool it. There are easy ways around it.

It’s only free until they hook you.

I’m waiting for them to close the stores to customers entirely and go to pick up or delivery only.
I know that would kill impulse buying, but I think they might make it up by not needing to police the isles, and no theft.
Service Merchandise did tag pulls and pick up at the register for everything back in the 70s and 80s. That might come back.

I like self check because there’s never a line when I go. With cashiers, the policy was to only open a new register if the lines got over three deep. So, there was always at least three people in line, no matter what time of day, on average.
I’ve never waited in line since I started using the self check lanes.

Only because he got caught.
Remember how they pissed their pants? If he had the training, perhaps some support and a better plan, he might have kept going.

You like their food (objective, so there’s no “lying” around that), and so excuse their politics. I get it, it’s like separating the artist from the art. Lots of people pay to see Tom Cruise movies, or now to see Ed Sheeran, or maybe Bill Burr.
Some people don’t.

Throwing Bender into the middle of old ST:TOS episodes would be one use of AI I could forgive.

I think it’s just people with very limited life experience. They’re young and/or perpetually online.

Nothing ever happens.

Many homes have storm doors, usually on the outside. But, if the door swings out, instead of in, then the only place for a storm door is on the inside. Most front doors swing in, but not all.

If you shingled my house with deep black, I’d call for your removal.
I live in NM, and you’d turn my house into an oven.
Fortunately, my HOA has no restrictions on shingle colors. I chose the whitest once I could get. My HOA is decent, mostly they just deal with the landscape company, and keep people from trashing their own yards. I haven’t raked leaves or mowed a lawn in nearly 30 years. My front yard always looks good.

That something is that money = power, and power corrupts.
They start out with perhaps a little less empathy than normal, maybe due to being raised by rich, entitled parents, but as their wealth and power grows, the lose it all.
I think virtually everyone, save the Mr. Rogers and Dolly Partons of the world, would soon fall into the same trap, if handed a billion dollars. It’s human nature. We’re not poor because we’re better, we’re better because we’re poor.

Yeah, I know, I know.
I think of it as a way to prompt others to donate. “I donated, and you can too!”, sort of thing. Like wearing an “I voted” sticker on election day.
Unless just doing a sticky once in a while does the job, I suppose.

I’d be nice if supporters got a little badge or something. But, maybe that’s not the Fediverse way.

Billionaires think they have an IQ of 1000.
