I did work for a company who ran various care homes across the country. Some for people with ill health, some just for old age. The changes care homes were having to adapt to was interesting. Not only more openly gay relationships, various different religions, etc… But also a vastly different array of hobbies, and that for some included gaming. This meant care homes having to upgrade internet/wifi, and many other adaptions. Some used handheld games machines, or mobile phones. A couple had PCs. I don’t recall seeing any Mac’s. A few had games machines. One elderly lady adored her original Gameboy. So it does take all sorts.

Now I’m the same age as you, so I can recall growing up and 99% of girls at school just switched off at talk of the latest game for the Spectrum 48k. We would get called geek, and other names. To a point, the stereotype will stick with some people as they grow up. But I find many, regardless of gender, do or will play games. Even if it’s some form of Snake of their phone. Or maybe board games. It’s all about having fun, pure and simple. Maybe they have fun in other ways. Maybe you’re not compatible? I have always had the rules that a future partner would need to enjoy games at some level, mobile phone, board games, card games, etc… Have to own books and read. Have a love of music. Beyond that, it’s negotiable.

So an age limit on games, nah!

Not sure if it’s niche, but more UK based communities are needed. Not sure the place is big enough for city by city or even county. But UK politics, casual, sport, etc…

Yes you can use apps, also you can create a shortcut in whatever browser you use on the device. At least you can on Android.

Seeing friends get older, have kids, and them growing up. Older tech. Old news stories. It all does very little to me. Until we reach music. I am a huge music lover, and relate music to so many things in my life. Many songs will trigger something, maybe the gig I was at, a relationship, a location, etc… That really gets me. In my head, I still think I’m in my mid-twenties or something like that. Putting memories into a historic timeline in my head is almost impossible, apparently this is related to ADHD related. Soon as a song comes on, I am transported. Also, my mind is pretty good at remembering details like the album it’s from, artist, chart position, year, etc… when i struggle with retaining any other information.

Well, Lemmy is part of the Fediverse, as has been pointed out. So maybe we are all Feddies? I am using Kbin.social, so maybe I’m just a Bin? Then again, as boring as it is, maybe we are just users? Or even more shocking, maybe we are humans? Nah, surely not? I will stick to calling myself a twat.

Honestly, people, it’s true. I was walking into town, a trip that normally takes me 20 minutes. I decided to test this out, so I started my stopwatch and started thinking gay thoughts. I have no idea what your standard homosexual thinks about, I’m just your normal straight white male. Just attempting to think gay made me walk into town 5 minutes faster.

I shared these results with my boyfriend when I got back from town, and he was amazed.

Reddit has been going downhill for ages. They stopped listening to the users, its customers, years ago. They started becoming more ‘Social’ as they put it. Adding chat features, and other useless features. All the time ignoring important things like stopping spam, decent moderation tools, blocking people, etc… I have been using Old.Reddit with Reddit Enhancement Suite for years to make the site usable. I will miss Reddit, but I have been missing it for quite some time.

As for people who put effort into apps, subreddits, etc… Yes, it’s a shame, but the internet evolves and moves on. Harsh but true. Hopefully, these people will see a future elsewhere. Because a good portion of those people are talented. Maybe one of them can produce apps for Kbin.social? Who knows what they will find to put their energy into, maybe one such person leaving Reddit will create a new social media site we all flock too?

I will be watching to see what happens. Yes I support those fighting to keep 3rd party access, specially as it means some with certain needs (Like the blind) will have no access at all to Reddit. I also think this shake-up is needed. I will be using the Fediverse.

Not sure when Lemmy first entered my social media walkabout, but it was quite some time ago now. I have been searching for a place to replace Reddit for years. It has been a slow search. That search has now speeded up since the latest changes. At present, I am using Kbin to gain access to the Fediverse. It feels the most user-friendly. Not that I have been here long, minutes. But I have lurked for some time.

I am not looking for a direct Reddit replacement. I think many are, so lack of users. Different rules, jargon, etc… Do not bother me.
