In a practical sense, I can tell you that in mobile apps, some parts of gdpr are implemented based on phone language settings or in the case of websites, the domain suffix of the page (.fr or .de, etc). I’m guessing this is an interpretation of the section described here:

strong indications that a non-EU business is intentionally offering goods or services to data subjects in the EU and may therefore be subject to the GDPR:

• Use of the language of an EU Member State (if the language is different than the language of the business’ home state);4
• Use of the currency of an EU Member State (if the currency is different than the currency of the business’ home state);

• Mentions of customers based in an EU Member State; or

Most people seem to be leaning toward just applying them to anyone as that’s the way things are headed and once you’ve figure out how to do it technically it’s easier to just do it all the same way. Also, the EU is doing it’s best to set precedent for a broad interpretation.

Also, not having great info about how your credentials are handled on all of these different instances makes people tend to congregate under the idea that more users means better outcome for any grievances. Gaslamp district in San Diego had a cafeteria like this years ago, guessing it’s no longer a thing, but simple cheap menu would have steady customers, maybe profitable, it’s the business development people who would oppose.

I love this and have had similar thoughts in relation to my non verbal kid wanting to keep memories in a way they can point out different parts and link together multiple things to make new stories or comments or hypotheticals. Important to have the context and the parts and named things all relating together. I don’t know much about it, but there is a thing called “sidecar” file that can be associated with media. There are some moves to make EXIF data more standardized. So there’s a chance this could be done in an open format.

That simply isn’t true. Reddit is much larger and more diverse than Usenet. I’m willing to bet the vast majority had never heard of Usenet when they started using Reddit, though they probably heard about it along with hundreds of other new and old ideas after joining. If you think everyone you want to talk to is already here, I’m happy for you, but I think it’s a limited philosophy.

I just realized those two I suggested are mostly subtitled. I’ve also enjoyed I think it’s DW? Documentaries from Germany I think but covering all kinds of things. Some are short form. They have narration, but less of the discovery channel type. God, have you seen the History Channel. My kid in high school has to watch those, complete garbage

I totally agree and have stopped watching many documentaries after just a few minutes usually because of too much heavy handed narration.

I’ve really enjoyed documentaries such as All That Breathes and Honeyland, which have basically no narration. Of course the editing tells a certain story, and if you’re curious you may need to go to Wikipedia or something to answer some questions, but I prefer that to having loaded commentary shoved down my ears.
