How would this app be an improvement or any better? Sometimes I feel people clone app repos, tweak 1 or 2 things and call it a whole new app.

181·4 days agoDude fuck this platform! It’s insanely addicting and they’re full of shit to say it’s not designed that way! My own kids have issues with this and I have noticed my daughter gets upset if she can’t play or her play gets interrupted. It’s absolutely like an addict, feigning. My wife is starting to agree it’s not healthy nor safe like they claim!

12·7 days agoThey’re usually a lot more trustworthy, better community contributions, and better ratios to help others, hence the seeding requirement. It’s a sort of accountability to sharing. There are also those who abuse the rules…
A few smaller sites are a bit goofy, I’ll agree, but at least 2 bigger ones are non issues.

2·7 days agoOutlook gives you aliases, but obviously we’re not trying to use big bro tech.
Proton paid does this as does free with limited aliases.
Then there’s SimpleLogin (also through Proton) that gives you a bunch of domains to use with several other domains. The only service that rejected the alias domain was Github, but it’s trash and owned by MS so nbd.

7·8 days agoConsoles are typically loss leaders. They make money on the games, accessories, etc. If Microsoft dropped exclusives, it means more money making games with less money losing consoles… It’s purely a business profitability move, not a gamer move.
Sony probably realized people would much prefer Steam and PC overPS and saw a drop in console sales which hurt game sales. So they’re back tracking to exclusives to being back money.
See Microsoft is software where Sony is hardware. That’s why Xbox is dying. Like Sega. Just focused on software and IPs…

34·9 days agoBut how do you encrypt remote streams? That’s the issue with JF, outside the home there’s no streaming encryption, so what’s to stop you from DMCA notices? For some family, were running a Wireguard VPN through Ubiquiti but nobody else can with ease. At least not that I’m aware of.

116·10 days agoI recall reading an article the first few months into lockdown that nationally, productivity was up a surprising 17% average.
I guess commercial landlords, micromanaging bosses, and the ultra rich realized it started to loosen their grip on the rest of us and we might like our lives a little. Every article after that was the complete opposite, and basically misinformation hit everywhere hard to pound out of our minds it was ever mentioned!

Privacy@lemmy.ml•How to prevent websites from tracking you (all browsers)
3·10 days agoI use Waterfox which forgets all data on exit, with Privacy Badger and Port Authority extensions with no exclusions.
So far, no sites really “break”, if anything, they’re a little quicker… reading mode is nice to get passed paywall popups on most sites that want a subscribe.
If at work, I include the company-provided password manager for all my sites I need. Still works well (unless my post gets attention and companies try to break it)

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How is RAM size measured? Why doesn't it match the marketed size?
36·14 days agoOK, slow down there, you might go into the BIOS and check to see if you have a hardware reserve for internal graphics. Sometimes it’ll default to something small like 64MB, by you can configure it up to 2048MB on some Intel motherboards iirc, maybe AMD is higher because it’s an “APU” which will reserve some in the same way.
