Soooo. I was banned for telling a extreme right wing dickhead that he was an asshole. Yeah I shouldn’t have but whatever. (yes I’ve appealed it and failed)
Now all my sub accounts are also banned.
Is the only way to evade the ban to dodge your online fingerprint? (new phone, new email, new ph number. Etc)
I read it’s just IP based but my flat has 3 others that use reddit daily and they are fine so surely it’s device ID and email linked to device. Etc
Sorry to ask here guys but it’s wracking my brain.
Use an anti-fingerprinting browser like Cromite:
https://github.com/uazo/cromite
And yes, new email. Maybe sign up via your cellular data (but only tethered or with a mobile browser like Cromite).
Personally I have just stayed off Reddit now.
Embrace the ban. Never look back.
Just to give you an idea of what Reddit collects on iOS (minus algorithms):

So I agree with everyone else… a lot.
Yeah I got on the other day on my 2ndary account. It’s banned now too.
I literally haven’t commented about anything with it except a game walk through.
First account banned for listing maga trolls who sent me death threats for banning them from my small city sub.
Reddit says it was doxing. Not sure how.
Anyway. On reddit info it says it uses IP , screen resolution, and device numbers.
So I change my IP all the time
And I recently moved and at the same time got a new PC cause my old one died.
So I was using this 2ndary account on new IP, new PC, new city.
And some how they still flagged it.
So that means something else is going on.
I was banned from a 14yr account for “unusual activity” - the unusual activity was logging in on a browser to get my list of subs to transfer here. Zero interest in circumventing the ban, fuck Reddit
If Lemmy could up its porn game, reddit would just be bots saying catchy things to each other.
Sigh so I guess it’s goodbye to reddit? I will try the new phone new fingerprint stuff but damn. Have to say it… Fuck Spez. Man that account was 10yrs old. Now I feel like I have a sock stuffed in my mouth if that makes sense.
I know. It’s. Rough at first cause of hobby subs. But it’s lost bro. It’s all lost.
- I am suspicious of your perfectly innocent story sir or ma’am
- Modern web sites are very good at this sort of thing. From hearing from moderators on the small scale, it’s fairly easy to tell when someone who has been banned comes back, simply because they almost always start doing the exact same stuff that got them banned. At that point you don’t really need to do exact fingerprinting, you just look at the relevant dates / behavior / rough device fingerprinting and you have about 99% confidence that this is the same person. But, also, there is a whole technology of figuring out who people are on the web at this point, and it’s pretty comprehensive. Even if you change devices and IPs, your browser’s tracking cookies probably link your Reddit session with your other big-web-site accounts pretty much instantly and there is definitely some kind of API that shares that information back with Reddit. I’m honestly not sure even what I could recommend as a working way to do ban evasion on Reddit.
- Bro why Reddit? I still read it periodically because there’s neat stuff there sometimes but there are far better federated social networks than modern Reddit out there, I think.
bro I got permabanend for saying the wind is blowing west, it was because one of my accounts was already banned from that sub and I didnt realize but it was just a random throwaway comment into a void of thousands on the front page. No idea why I initially got banned, was publicfreakout, but you can get banned from one sub on one account for any random reason like commenting on conservative even if you are a liberal, and those mods will ban you from other subs they own.
If you use alts for different hobbies or to change your name, you could unknowingly comment on a sub you got banned from on the front page and get every account you use instantly permabanned no appeal.
Yeah. I do see the point, Reddit moderation at this point is hilariously bad so I guess I shouldn’t assume that this person did any little thing wrong.
The whole moderation model which depends on volunteers with unlimited power and allows any random idiot to create an unlimited number of alts, is broken. Reddit devs and moderators have made a good go I guess of trying to make it work, but all they have done is demonstrated that it is not the way.
Alts used to be encouraged, why I even made them, plus my username was my fullrealname lol, wanted to stop using that. Its wild how they could instantly detect my comment and permaban all accounts within a second, which means they could’ve just prevented me from seeing the sub I was bannee from or commenting in the first place, instead they use it to perma ban. It’s like a trap that only works if mods arent banhappy, ppl also have to remember what subs banned them and notice they were banned. Also assumes ppl arent using alts and the only reason they use them is to avoid subreddit bans.
The whole model is just absolutely stupid. I mean, I get how it was what Aaron and Spez came up with back 20 years ago, but the fact that nobody bothered to make anything fundamentally better at any point since then is just fuckin’ weird.
I got nuked from Reddit for saying riot police should quit their jobs en masse during RvW
Don’t be suspicious, it tracks. I got permabanned for talking about Italy’s way of taking care of fascist dictators in a positive light.
Yeah, it’s fair. I know the moderation on Reddit has gone entirely off the fucking rails at this point.
I am suspicious of your perfectly innocent story sir or ma’am
I got 2 temp suspensions then a ban for
- Saying Danielle Smith should stand on her head so the blood will rush there and she can have a coherent thought
24 hours for threatening violence
- When someone said JD Vance will never be President, I responded with, “He will when Trump has the inevitable coronary from all the cheeseburgers he eats”
72 hours for threatening violence
When ICE Barbie suggested Canada isn’t doing enough to defend the border, I posted “She can keep her cunt ass on her side of the border”
- Perma ban for threatening violence
I absolutely believe OP was banned for calling someone an asshole.
Legit bro. All I said was “your likely the same asshole spray painting “fk jacinda adern” on the footpaths of Auckland”
Apparently that’s inciting violence and harassment. Sigh
You gotta say a**ho*e or they ban you for swearing. I can’t fucking believe someone on the internet would permaban someone for saying: asshole, cunt, trump, fuck, Hitler was an awful person. But fascists are going to fascist ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Similar path here as well, but much less detailed record keeping to back it up.
Same for me. If it wasn’t talking shit to chuds it was insulting scammers, and there was one time I posted a meme that included the r-word uncensored. Oh well, fuck reddit
I don’t know how everyone on there isn’t banned at this point. It’s so arbitrary.
It’s all bots that are left.
Yeah they are banning for saying anything against musk , Trump, any of his cabinet. Or saying something nice about Luigi. The censorship is out of control.
Don’t use email verification. Simply click skip when creating an account (they hid it in the corner)
Also VPN
So one of the big reasons I still want to be able to post on reddit is niche subreddits, and mostly health related stuff.
I’ve tried this already, made an acc with vpn from a friend’s house. Still it was shadow banned within a couple hours, only worked out I was banned again after manually trying to view that profile on a browser.
When I can afford a burner phone I’ll try again. Use a new Gmail account new sim. But my concern is won’t reddit just realise it’s me because of the subreddits I view and the way I type?
There are sites you can use for phone verification. Open online phone numbers to use.
