Maybe the intention is good (the links to primary sources definitely help) but this sort of emotional counterattack is what we need to rise above. Personally, I would like to see the exploitative profit motives of the “open source” movement, well documented in dot com, expounded rather than see personal attacks on individuals.
Maybe call out problem organisations like Microsoft, Google, corporations taking over OSM, conflict of interest on paid sponsorship of open source.
Most people here are basically good and using sound bytes instead of extended trends which benefit corporations and shareholders is going to prolong the process of healing the soul of a long since sold out technology industry where few voices remain to keep profits, IPOs, acquisitions, and control via surveillance in check.
Are you saying there isn’t a misogyny/gender/whatever problem in tech, particularly in the (f)oss world?
To me, the ideology stuff is related, but not really what I’m mad about. For sure it’s important to establish that the letter to the fsf is cynical, but the real relevant information here to me is that all these shitlords that we’ve canonized fucking suck.
If you write a deep dive into osi/fsf ideological differences I’d definitely link to it, it’s the thinnest part of my post.
