I have been advised, to post here, in the announcements about a new community I would like to tell you about. It has been created for people who would like to find new friends. In it, you may post that you are looking for friends or you may message a potential friend based on what they said about themselves.

Looking at all the new people joining the FOSS world, I thought it could be useful for those not knowing anyone here but obviously, it could be a place for absolutely everyone, looking for friends.

I wish I could get to make online friends, but I feel my tastes are too niche and I don’t know how to keep online relationships alive. Ever since I stopped using social media a couple of years in the past it’s getting harder to make friends. But well.
Try to play with the thought, that many people are feeling like this here, it might give you encouragement to reach out. Don’t think you don’t deserve the support of a friend just because you think you are different. Passion (interest) in each other lets you to experience friendship even if your tastes are totally different. Friendship is based on love, not interest, those built on interest and ‘trading’ (you give me this, I give you that in exchange), understandably are friendships that is quite likely will not be long lasting. Also, in my opinion you don’t have to make anything work, nor do you have to make a friendship work. Of course build the ship together, but if you feel the need to keep a friendship alive, then maybe let each other go and look for a new sailor. :)

Sounds like a cool idea! Maybe a chat room like a discord or matrix might be a good idea so people can directly talk to others who might be looking for new friends.
Lemmy offers messages as far as I know, just click on the profile, the option was there for me. However thank you for your opinion, because I will put an extra advice into the community’s info that: they can use lemmy DM’s to message each others or the poster may provide extra options to be messaged at, like email or matrix etc. Thank you! ☺

I haven’t done well with friendships over the past few years.
I don’t know. Maybe it’s me.
We all want different things. We all have different interests.So I’m just me.
And the me is a blunt thick headed recluse. I don’t have time for the pettiness and flowery language. I don’t kiss ass.
Even my humor is offensive to some people. What can I say?*shrugs
In hoping the “follow” feature will help. You’ll find yourself interacting mostly with the people you like / find interesting. So friendships can develop naturally.
