I don’t think that’s it. If you follow their channels you notice they were working a lot last weeks to get the MSC merged. The Freenode stuff just happened to happen at the same time.

And even if it was on purpose, I don’t see anything wrong with it. I mean why not promote your alternative when you have the opportunity?

Sure, but it gets a bit annoying when you make again and again these grandiose announcements that on closer inspections turn out to be half-baked stuff far from prime-time.

I mean it’s on you if you expect anything amazing from a “beta” announcement lol

If you make a “private Space for you and your team” and your invitees can’t see any rooms despite being invited to the Space, then I think it’s safe to say this was closed beta stuff at best. It really is a cycle of the same, you get excited about the big announcement but then realize something absolutely fundamental is still missing.

Look up what “beta” usually means. This is at best an “alpha”, probably not even that.

In my experience, the meaning use to be especific to the version model used in each project.

Sure the interpretations widely differ, but most commonly “beta” means “core feature complete” but needs testing and bug-fixing.

I agree with that mostly. I use to read about it in game promotions or similar sometimes and some known projects mostly in which young people and/or market economy are involved.
