No, the title is poorly worded. They are testing a technology that could redirect an asteroid, there isn’t one that is currently a concern.
A better title would be “Japan to test technology to destroy potential asteroids…” but that takes more space and is less attention-grabbing

The Apollo program lead to some everyday inventions that has improved the lives for average people. Working on tough technical challenges can result in unexpected discoveries and inventions.
We already know what we need to improve the lives of average people.
We just choose not to do it because regular people being desperate is good for the ruling class.
Those people won’t have lives if a giant asteroid collides with earth.
