I’ve gone the i3 route, but if I went back to a DE, or had anyone else use one, it’d be plasma. What’s neat is even with all this prettiness, its supposed to be more performant and less RAM heavy than XFCE4 now.

And yeah! I did some “thumb in the air” benchmarks on Plasma, Gnome, and XFCE a couple years back (just looking at memory consumption with top), and Plasma was surprisingly low! Much better than the KDE of old.
