Shit like this always pisses me off.

I had this once happen few years ago with university books. Got emailed that it was delivered but I didn’t receive it and was home all day. Got them the day after.

      Same thing happened to me.

I ordered an expensive instrument, and they said it’d be delivered the week after Thanksgiving.

Got an email that it was delivered to my porch the day after Thanksgiving, when I was all the way across town.

I didn’t want to leave a $1,300 lute on my doorstep for anyone to snatch, so I drove the hour home to secure it. It wasn’t there after all, so I installed their stupid app and it told me it would be delivered next week.

One of the worst buying experiences I’ve ever had. 1/10, would not recommend.

I’d suggest getting a parcel safe box and having some form of camera monitoring it for anyone attempting to retrieve anything from in the box.

Saves you the hour and fuel money

I have one of these. And signs. The only way I’ve managed to get delivery drivers to use it is to actually point at it and ask them (nicely) when I’ve been in. Works until a new person does my area…

Most sites I’ve ordered from that use shop will still email a link to tracking number, you don’t need to download shop to track it.

Tracking numbers don’t get created until a shipping label is printed. Maybe give it a little bit.

Most places print their own labels and it’s added to UPS/Fedex/postal when it’s picked up.

So you’ll get a tracking number immediately when they complete your order, but tracking won’t work till it’s picked up later that day or the next.

That’s if the label generation is automated. Small shops will still have that be a manual process when they pack and weigh it for the label.

Doesn’t need to be automated, if they’re taking a massive pile of stuff to fedex everyday instead of printing labels, they’re asking for stuff to get mixed up.

The only places that do that only deal with a couple items a day, and they wouldn’t employ a system like Shop to begin with.

The order confirmation came on Tuesday so this email was almost definitely generated when the label (which includes the tracking, if applicable) was created yesterday

It’s just a shirt that I don’t care about tracking but Shopify was pushing me to download the app to buy it so I found this a bit more obnoxious

This looks like a marketing email because you agreed to share information with Shop Pay as the first line says. It may have nothing to do with your specific order shipment.

Not to say it’s not annoying to see another “please please download our app” message, but the pitchforks aren’t necessary yet.

i got an email from Verizon, confirming my order shipped. If i want to track the order i had to create an account. then i create the account and click to track it and theres no tracking info, just trying to upsell me warranty and accessories. i go to chatbot support and it tells me to go to the same link without tracking. so i call verizon and fight through the terrible voicebots to get a person who gives me the tracking number… which actually doesnt exist for 3 more days, since it hasnt actually shipped yet. when it actually ships via UPS the website offers to hold my package for pick up if i click a link… but then i need to create a ups account first. then i do that and it says oh we cant hold this package because of the senders rules.

Fyi there won’t ever be a tracking number for any package until it’s in a box, a label is printed and slapped onto it, and it’s in a truck.

Unless something changed in the past 3-5 years, that is not true. I used to sell a lot on Etsy and eBay and both created a tracking number as soon as you generated the label. If you checked it right away, the USPS site would say they hadn’t processed the package at the post office yet.

Yes. When an order has been shipped it will be tracked.

Okay in any fulfillment operation tracking occurs when an order is placed. You need to know when a label is printed, often when specific items are packed, and when that order leaves the building. Bigger operations will have more steps for the fulfillment chain and delivery if they do that part.

From a customer perspective, even your mom and pop shop doing UPS pickup will create a label with tracking so the customer knows when their shipment has entered the delivery chain.

Am I misunderstanding what you are talking about?

The order goes to the warehouse. The item(s) are picked. When every thing is completed the shipping/tracking order is printed, stickered, scanned, and put on the truck. That’s when the tracking number is sent out.

                  This is standard stuff.

The tracking number is on the label. There’s a tracking number as soon as the label is created, before it’s ever printed or slapped on a box. Whether or not a customer is given the tracking number when the label is created is a different story.

I’ve had plenty of tracking numbers that just take me to a page that says “label created - USPS/UPS/FedEx awaiting item” until the carrier receives it. Some won’t give me tracking until it’s been picked up by the carrier, because there’s no point tracking an item that hasn’t shipped, but the number still exists.

yep thats when they should announce that it shipped. not when the order was entered. and it shouldnt take a $177Billion dollar consumer company 3 days to get a box out the door.

You are definitely using a tracked delivery service? And has it dispatched yet, or just confirmed order?

Never seen this, I hope they dont try to force the app, then I’d have to contact the seller each time. Ugh.

So, I have been here before. If you download the shop app, it requires access to your emails so that it can scan and report tracking info you have been emailed. It is not showing you anything you don’t have in email already. I’ve used shop, and if there is trackig, you will get it in your email. If you don’t have tracking, you don’t get it in your email, and I don’t believe it shows any additional info in shop either.

They have the tracking number any by choosing to not email it to you they are requiring their support staff to get it to you by hand.

I end up using Shop/Pay more than I’d like but it does make the buying process about as easy as Amazon. I’m to the point now that I just ignore any email from Shop and just wait patiently for my item to arrive.
