If you mean specifically with ActivityPub support… well IMHO chatting over AP is not really the best option, but Pleroma (and Soapbox) does have a new chat feature over AP. It is more like Facebook messenger though.
Otherwise as mentioned below: Movim is a nice community oriented XMPP webclient with microblogging features. A ActivityPub compatibility layer is currently being worked on via the similar and Movim compatible Libervia project.
I have not been so much in Pleroma but I checked documentation recently and given what I got from main devs when I use it, it is that they added integration of Pleroma with XMPP for the accounts.
The chat is other story I don’t know but I remember the devs mentioned integrating it too.

Yes it is quite easy to link a pleroma account to a ejabberd or metronome xmpp server, but the chat over AP feature is relatively new, see: https://docs-develop.pleroma.social/backend/development/API/chats/
