BTW do we have any subs about fediverse/lemmy/privacy promotion?

Change wifi name to x

Chalk ads on sidewalks

Set up a free public booth and hand out food samples and pamphlets

Make song/art about fediverse

Cold emailing celebrities about x

x related shirt

Yelp reviews that are mostly positive and that “it would be nice if they had x”

holiday greeting cards

In bookstores, put privacy books in more relevant spots

When eating out, ask about their social medias, recommend x

Bumper sticker or paper printout inside of car with links

Facebook status, if have a fb

I used to live in a city with a big university library I went to often. Sometimes I left notes or hints in books I liked. Maybe one could leave a list of local instances or a pamphlet about how one can and should host their own in some admin or linux books

For (potential future or current) fedizens:

    • Local Fediverse chapters, supported by e.g. Mobilizon (federated alternative to Meetup) to plan events in your area.

    For technologists:

    • Promote SocialHub community in any way you can, as that is where the open standards and foundations of the Fediverse are further evolved, and federated projects collaborate to become stronger together.

    • Help projects like ForgeFed and FedeProxy so software development itself becomes federated! See also United Software Development

    • Involve universities and schools where curriculum subjects can be combined with fediverse-related activities.

    • Student bodies and groups get involved, organize hackathons and events.

    • Offer more bundled federated apps and infrastructure and advertise them to your local community and municipality to adopt instead of cloud-based GAFAM services.

    • Focus on breaking the silo that each federated app constitutes and work to facilitate a more Task-Oriented Fediverse

I have added an image to this cross-post from !fediverse@lemmy.ml with the logo of a website I am working on to promote this technologist side of the fedi, which will broadly address many of the technology challenges we need to overcome.

The website is still a draft as of this moment. It is called Federated Diversity Foundation

This is the Discourse forum for ActivityPub / Fedi technologists to discuss fedi open standards and extensions thereof, as well as their own projects and the ecosystem at large. The forum was created as a companion to the W3C Social Web Incubator Community Group, but that hasn’t been active for a while, so SocialHub can be said to be “where we build the fediverse”.

Copy and paste my post back in, I improved the spelling and formatting since my post did well.

Also, I like this: “I used to live in a city with a big university library I went to often. Sometimes I left notes or hints in books I liked. Maybe one could leave a list of local instances or a pamphlet about how one can and should host their own in some admin or linux books.”
