Article says nothing to contradict sexy_peach’s point. Notably you didn’t also make a counter to sexy_peach’s point, so I’ll reiterate - None of the Lemmy instances that I’m familiar with, including wolfb*lls, claim to be free speech.

      I disagree and quote:

Most sexually explicit and pornographic content is legal, and engaging with such content on social media platforms allows individuals to build communities and explore their identities. However, the moderation of sexual content has enabled social networks to become the arbiters of how people create and engage with nude content both offline and in the digital space. As a result of this flawed system, a crucial form of engagement for all kinds of users has been removed and the voices of people with less power have regularly been shut down.

      Emphasis mine.

Not having freedom of speech means marginalised groups are marginalised even more, in this case sex workers, for example. Since we don’t have a lemmy instance allowing to post nudes like for example reddit or twitter does, sex workers are driven to proprietary and dangerous services instead of Lemmy.

I don’t have a solution but I too think that banning sexual content is bad in regards of treating all humans equal. I don’t get into trouble when I post biotech content (the area I work in), so why should they get into trouble when posting nudes?

Your concern isn’t with freedom of speech though, it’s with sex workers not having a place on lemmy. I agree that ideally there would be instances that would welcome them!

Why dont you create your own instance and write your own rules, if you dont like the exisiting ones? On the other hand, I dont think prostitution, a form of exploitation, should be supported.

Because other instance admins wouldn’t federate and I’d have to tolerate people like you who think sex work is no-no and ewwy.

On the other hand, I dont think prostitution, a form of exploitation, should be supported.

Some feminists, including some sex workers, say that sex work is actually empowering and not repressing women. Interestingly, the article you obviously either didn’t read or didn’t understand touches this subject aswell:

When sexual content is restricted, the response is often one of apathy, as the censored content is perceived as either marginally illegal (so it should be disregarded), undesirable (so no one should care even if it is legal), or so frequently censored that it’s not worth protesting the restrictions.

          Emphasis mine.

Sex work does not only include prostitution, which usually means selling intercourse with physical contact. It also includes many sexual services not related to physical contact.

You wont know unless you try. I wont get into an argument on this topic, but I would not mind federating with such an instance, as long as it doesnt have advertising/spam.
