OpenBox, IceWM and Fluxbox are far from the only floating window managers. I use KDE/Kwin and I’m pretty happy with it.
The article is super short and doesn’t contain relevant information. Maybe try to include more text, more images, generally more of what people like to read. Currently your blog doesn’t contribute much to the general Linux ecosystem and is just another noob-focused rehash of stuff seen elsewhere.
If I wanted to find out what the best stacking/floating window manager is, I’d just look at the Arch Wiki page on window managers and open their respective home pages. You didn’t even include screenshots, nor did you include example configuration, just a short rundown.
To add some additional constructive criticism, consider re-branding your blog as a personal journey blog, with posts that recount your experiences with different types of software and operating systems. Include your preferences! What didn’t you like? What did you like? Which did you choose after trying them all?
Titles like What is the Best – For You? give the impression that the article will be detailed, helpful, and technically oriented. Try instead, something along the lines of IceWM, OpenBox, and FluxBox: My First Impressions. This will also make the spelling errors and poor phrasing much more forgivable.
But, as @Helix mentions, include screenshots, configuration files, and even a pros and cons list.
Nice additions! I think @SudoDnfDashY@lemmy.ml would be well advised following your tips and ideas.
Oh my god these listicles and the wording used trigger me…
Your comment is pretty useless because it doesn’t contain any actionable critique, only a statement of your preferences. You could explain why listicles are unpleasant to you and how to fix that and you could give examples of the wording, so the author can work on that.
I could however, the the poster (sudodnfdashy) have yet to answer if he/she is the author of these listicles on thekarnalblog when asked in previous posts. It would be pointless spending more time on proper critique if he/she is not the author or is and but is not interested in criticism or conversations around the articles as I have offered to share previously.
Edit: there has now been a confirmation that sudodnfdashy is in fact the author and I might just leave criticisms at some point, although when I’ve asked previously it’s not been answered.
I use gnome (because otherwise there’s so much functionality I have to think about, rather than get for free out of the box, on my laptop), and I think that means discussion talking about picking “window manager” just don’t apply to me (eg)? That is, while I can find an extension to change how windows are managed there isn’t really a clean separation between DE and WMs for gnome users.
I’m happy to be corrected though, and have an ELI5 moment.
Why does he spell it kernal, it’s so weird
It started out as a typo, but I just kept with it. Plus, there is already a blog called the kernel, so it helps distinguish me from them.
We live in a world with autistic, dyslectic people and what not. Commenting on one letter wrong seems over the top to me. Striving for unity instead of isolation is a motto I like.
