I wonder if it’s due to the possibility for server strain since Reddit (and Lemmy) uses a nested commenting system that needs to be loaded recursively, which is inherently much more resource intensive than single depth threads like on BB forums, or if it’s just a decision about the “style” of forum they want Reddit to be.
