I don’t care about curating some kind of online persona or interacting with any. This isn’t Instagram.

I do. But its because I’m on the browser and i usually use an app on my phone. I added a picture. So this comment is to see if it works.

As others have said, I use a client that doesn’t display them, so it never dawned on me. And in general, profile pics have never been a big deal for me. So if the app or site doesn’t make me do it as part of the account set up, my profile pic just stays as the default.

I don’t want random pictures being loaded when I just want to read articles, posts, and comments. This isn’t Facebook or Myspace. I’m not building a profile for people to look at. I’m reading and commenting.
They put extra burden on servers, apps, and mods. Someone has to be able to remove them if someone starts setting offensive pics like porn.
I have one only because it’s the one I use everywhere.

I never look at anyone else’s profile/picture. They aren’t shown anywhere obvious in Voyager app.

I do have a profile picture, but I don’t think it’s crucial. Other link aggregators often don’t have profile pictures so if you’re used to those, you may not think to set one. In any case I’ve never thought anyone’s profile picture on here was particularly consequential to me.
I like not being particularly recognizable. Treat me like everyone else that you don’t know.
