Time to get microfiber cloth in addition to all my other privacy settings. Wipe that thing clean before taking pictures.

You can’t clean a sensor so easily. Especially on phones.

I think we’ll need some apps to generate artificial and randomized dust and scratches.

"As reported by Business Insider, the conversation according to SAI sources, went as follows.

Zuck: Yeah so if you ever need info about anyone at Harvard

    Zuck: Just ask.

Zuck: I have over 4,000 emails, pictures, addresses, SNS

[Redacted Friend’s Name]: What? How’d you manage that one?

    Zuck: People just submitted it.

    Zuck: I don’t know why.

    Zuck: They “trust me”

    Zuck: Dumb fucks."

I wonder if this has anything to do with the What’s App Privacy notice.

It’s a patent from 2015, it has nothing to do with it. To detect dust traces in photos facebook would have to be able to access the unencrypted photo; if facebook has access to your unencrypted whatsapp data, lens dust is the last of your concerns

As you cannot know if they are able to decrypt it, I would hedge my bets and just assume they can.

Consider using the native camera apps to click photos, and put a DIY camera cover (https://lemmy.ml/pictrs/image/ZWF9KqLntp.jpg) to avoid the in-app camera in Facebook apps.

Refer to smartphone guide for how to make DIY camera cover https://lemmy.ml/post/54596
