I would recommend Firefox with uBlock Origin as add-on.
If they use Linux (probably not but, maybe there are some) install them LibreWolf. It is a FOSS fork of Firefox and comes nativity with uBlock Origin.
LibreWolf wouldn’t be recommendable to a non tech person doe to its changes to the browser to make it more privacy friendly. It breaks a lot of sites that the common folk uses day to day. My advise would be Firefox with uBlock as pointed out.

And specially in the regards of elderly or not that technicaly people Firefox with uBlock origins should be a good tradeoff between security and usability
