Grow the fediverse by embracing our cult tendencies?
cross-posted from: https://lemmy.perthchat.org/post/227631 > I'm being somewhat serious. > > We already have half a cult, since like a bunch of users on the fedi are the 1% of tech, and of that group, the 1% of privacy. Let alone talking about how fedizens are like the 5% income wise. Like occasionally a user comes in and says they're ~~Muslim~~ on Facebook and ~~Christians~~ fedizens spring out of the wood work telling them that fb bad. > > The rightwingers grow entire movements by having Trump replace god (ex calling him god emperor Trump). Also Q, antivax stuff, manosphere, Bitcoin sphere.

Recoll; how to add a file to skip?
cross-posted from: https://lemmy.perthchat.org/post/222402 > The manual says add ".*" to stop it from indexing hidden directories, but in preferences > index settings, there is no text entry option to add that. I can add specific directories to it as long as they are clickable

We convince 1 Redditor to join and then they leave Reddit. But we need them to stay on Reddit so we're not just 1 Firefly in the dark. 1 Firefly will only convince the extremist fireflies, but 1000 fireflies will be able to convince normies. > > Prob useable for protest organization, since it directly applied to firefly synchronization

Is the fediverse assessible to the boomers/computer illiterate? What’s the most boomer friendly serv

Tho 10% trade stocks by themselves, so with sufficient motivation they could learn. > > I have onboard 1 person irl and I had to walk them through it. > > I rate the fediverse as 0/10 for assessibility to boomers but have not tried the whole fediverse

What’s your favorite sublemmy and why?
As a "mean girls" zealot, mine is https://lemmy.ca/c/fediverselore [Lore/drama](/c/fediverselore@lemmy.ca)

A random sort function would be cool too - for the explorers

Anybody able to get a verification email from Facebook to tutanota?

In looking for instances or subs with novel moderation policies
Sortition, back in some of the old greek citystates, they would simply draw lots for political offices. Essentially meaning random people get to be mod. This is meant as a way to limit corruption. By divine graphology. Meaning that candidate mod write something with pen on paper, and a council of divinely inspired priests judge the aptitude, character, skill, and more based on the writing (not the text, the strokes themselves). This would probably lead to a society with incredibly pretty (and probably illegible) handwriting. Anigarchy. The original founder of the instance rules absolutely, this remains possible long after their death, through shamans who are able to communicate with the souls of the dead. Reincarnation, like the dalai lama, the same person is continually reincarnated in new bodies to continue their rule. The method of the least willing. There is an addage about the best leaders being the ones who don't want the job. Why not turn that into the basis of your mod hunting? Actual anarchy hive mind, no mods content removed once it gets reported enough

The easiest solution for now is to join us at beehaw.org or our friends at sopuli.xyz or midwest.social. We block lemmygrad and put much care in moderation

Thanks for making this on sopuli rather than lemmy.ml!
