I’m curious about if those that decided to leave reddit and found a home here miss anything from reddit or like it here more.
Well this is cheating because I’m still on Reddit, but honestly I have to say that I don’t find Lemmy lacking. Lemmy is very much like how Reddit used to be when it was good. Simple pages, straightforward delivery of content. Only thing Lemmy lacks is the massive user base, which has its pros and cons.
I think the Fediverse as a whole is a lot more like the internet when it was good, lol.
I think the primary reason is that Fediverse isn’t commercially driven. Much like the internet of old, it’s just a bunch of people running servers because they enjoy doing it. The motivation is very different from commercial social media where the goal is to monetize the users of the platform. Fediverse is the internet by the people for the people the way it was always meant to be.
I left Reddit for Lemmy and eventually ended up opening a new Reddit account just to not miss out on certain things. I have however realized that Reddit is the closest thing to mainstream “social media” I’ll need, so I’m happy with this arrangement.
Getting away from propaganda, promotion, spam and sensational news and toward digital minimalism has been phenomenal. I still occasionally use nitter and watch too much invidious instead of reading at bedtime.
I miss the expert communities and ability to ask questions on virtually any subject. The silver lining is I do more research on my own to try to find answers.
I am still on Reddit some times. But I like Lemmy most, the transition from one to another was very smooth actually. Many things were just the same.
I used Reddit for creating content, asking questions, etc. Nothing gets in my way of doing the same thing here.
The reason why I still use Reddit is for r/ProgrammerHumor and r/linuxmemes
I deleted my Reddit account a couple years back and split my time between Tildes, Raddle, and Lemmy.
I don’t really miss it. I’ve had much more meaningful interactions in the past couple years than I ever did on Reddit, and there’s infinitely less garbage to sort through. I still end up on Reddit from search results for technical questions, buying guides, etc. but not actually using Reddit makes life much less of a headache.
I uh… well… I don’t have an account on reddit (good). But I still browse it (bad).
I used to mostly spend time on Reddit but it must have been years ago now, probably around 2016 to 2018. Eventually there was just more and more people and less of a noce little community plus with the political changes came a new reaction on reddit too. BTW, talking about 90% being on just r/france. Are there any other french speakers here BTW? I’m thinking of one day maybe opening a lemmy for French speakers but I don’t know if they would be enough people to make it a koce little active pod… There was a prismo instance called hostux.news that lasted a couple months but never really got any traction and closed down.
before I stopped using Reddit, I only really used it for memes and porn, before that I used Reddit for practically everything. Now it’s been nearly a year without checking Reddit regularly, and despite moderating a subreddit, I honestly don’t miss anything about it.
Now, I only really go to Reddit when I have a hyper-specific tech-thing to lookup, and even at that I only go there because google search results lead me there.
It’s been really nice to detach myself from the rampant swarm of Redditor reactionaries and get distance from the constant storm of propaganda posted on the site near-daily. And though the community here is smaller, it’s so much better for my mental health and I’ve been able to have actual connections with people. Though I’m one of the admins for Lemmygrad and am super biased, I’d have to say Lemmy in general is far better than any of the alternatives I’ve seen, and is a lot more approachable than what we founded this site to get away from.
