Greenland’s elected leader said the gigantic Arctic island is not for sale after Donald Trump once again raised the issue of “ownership and control” of the vast territory that has been part of Denmark for more than 600 years.

“Greenland is ours. We are not for sale and will never be for sale. We must not lose our long struggle for freedom,” Greenland’s prime minister, Múte Egede, said in a written comment.

The US president-elect on Sunday announced that he had picked Ken Howery, a former envoy to Sweden, as his ambassador to Copenhagen, and commented on the status of Greenland, a semi-autonomous part of Denmark.

“For purposes of National Security and Freedom throughout the World, the United States of America feels that the ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

This kind of talk is effective if you want to push EU towards China. Don’t really understand the tactics here. Trump in a nutshell I guess.

If he’s really interested in Greenland he should try to create more division between Greenland and Denmark. Maybe that’s what we’ll see next.

It’s all fun and games and a big joke until militaries start occupying sovereign states after being ordered by some delusional leaders that think they can do whatever they want because they surround themselves with people who won’t question a damned thing.

Part of the problem is people like Turnip being in power … the other half of the problem is everyone either standing around supporting him or doing absolutely nothing to stop or question him.

Any attack or occupation of a country member of the NATO treaty may trigger an article 5 declaration to which all NATO member countries are forced to answer or risk the breakdown of the NATO treaty alliance. Denmark is a NATO country. If Trump decides to pull an Israel, he risks a loss of military, geopolitical and trade allies, as well as a possible war and perhaps even the support of his constituency. If the US tried, it would be like chopping both of its legs and then one of the arms. The downspiral would be catastrophic.

Fat chance the Trump wranglers would let it get that far. He’s a useful idiot but his powers aren’t unlimited and i like to believe the people who actually govern the US aren’t complete idiots. Greedy, inhumane, arrogant, ignorant, cruel and warmongering monsters, yes, but not complete idiots.

the person actively causing harm is not the problem the real fault lies in the people not stopping them

I really do not understand this rhetoric. It’s illogical.

And I see it applied to all sorts of problems these days. Indicating a serious gap and incredible thinking ability in our society.

Trump supporters are a minority. Only about a quarter of the country voted for him, and half of those prob would’ve voted for any republican, if not more. The only reason trump and his supporters are as powerful as they are is because people with the means to oppose them have done nothing to do so. He could have been convicted for January 6th + a bunch of other shit, he could’ve been taken as a serious threat by democrats, they could’ve run a popular progressive candidate, he could’ve not been given a platform and legitimacy by liberal media. Instead the people who could have stopped or slowed him chose to do nothing, and trump was allowed to win in very much the same way he was the first time, except this year it happened with even more blatant promises of fascism

It’s really starting to sound less like “America first” and more like “America only.” Pissing off the rest of the world isn’t a very good business strategy coming from a guy that’s supposedly good at business.

      Always has been.

Trump has NEVER been good at business. He is just very good at bullying contractors and not paying what he agreed to pay.

His modus operandi is “Don’t pay anyone until they take you to court and then offer them half of what they want for the work they have already done”

If we don’t stop extracting and burning oil and gas, we’re screwed as a species. But, let’s face it, we’ve stuck our heads in the sand, and decided to call climate change fake so boomers could make a few extra bucks before they kick the bucket.

It’s not too late. Pretty much all climate scientists will tell you that we can limit the damage. This is propaganda spread by oil companies, and it’s been rather effective. They’re no longer denying climate change, shifting the messaging to, well, either it isn’t human driven, or it’s too late to do anything different.

Wouldn’t it be cheaper and easier just to do it with help of the military? It’s not like Greenland has so many people who would defend it like Ukraine, and before the Danish military arrives it’s already too late.
