I run the midwest.social instance. I’m also active on lemmy.ml. @seahorse@lemmy.ml
Probably because they said Latinx.
Can confirm, live in the US and probably 1/3 of the vehicles I see on the road are large pickup trucks that I doubt are even used to haul what they’re built for.

Dear Conservatives,
You claim to not approve of gender neutral bathrooms, yet Margaret Thatcher’s grave exists. Curious.
When I created my instance (midwest.social) I accidentally ran the DB script without changing the name of the admin so it’s lemmy and I’m not sure how to fix it. I guess I’ll have to do a DB insert of some kind, but my display name is seahorse, which is a play on words of my name in real life. Hint: my nickname in life is CJ.

Just tried it with my brother. Briar generates a random URL-like string such as “briar://7f2g83f7832hgb87f3b…” on your device which you share with the person you want to be in contact with, and they send you their string. Once you’ve both pasted each other’s strings in the proper form field it connects and you can start messaging each other.
“The man” is referring to people in positions of authority such as politicians and business executives. You’ll sometimes hear people say that “the man” is trying to “keep them down”.
I remember someone else asked the devs about this and they said it’s not a good feature for accessibility.
On lemmy.ml there are 3 comments as of writing this comment, but I can’t see them from my instance.
How the userbase is constantly bombarding the site with alternate versions of the same meme. Everything just feels so try-hard.
Lol. I click on this meme that has 30 comments, block a person, and now I see 3.
I luckily had a family member who lived next door to an employee at the company who had a lot of clout. They interviewed me and I got the job.
But I switched careers to programming after about 2.5 years, so I kind of had to look for a first job twice since I’d never worked in IT. Went to a coding bootcamp and when I graduated I applied to a bunch of places and didn’t get hired for 3 months.
I’m not good with interviews either. I don’t know what your situation is but you have to remember that it’s probably not the end of the world if you don’t get an offer. You’ll get another interview in the future. Hunting for jobs fucking sucks, but we all have to do it from time to time.
I disagree, but another reason to block this is because I know where this new age garbage leads to. It leads to stuff like QAnon and BS conspiracy theories about lizard people. I used to sort of be into this stuff back in college.
Anti covid passport
Adding this to my blocklist since there’s some heavy anti-vaxx sentiment going on there.
It’s a copypasta
I just downvoted your comment.
FAQ
What does this mean?
The amount of karma (points) on your comment has decreased by one.
Why did you do this?
There are several reasons I may deem a comment to be unworthy of positive or neutral karma. These include, but are not limited to:
• Rudeness towards other Lemmy users, • Spreading incorrect information, • Sarcasm not correctly flagged with a /s.
Am I banned from Lemmy?
No - not yet. But you should refrain from making comments like this in the future. Otherwise I will be forced to issue an additional downvote.
I don’t believe my comment deserved a downvote. Can you un-downvote it?
Sure, mistakes happen. But only in exceedingly rare circumstances will I undo a downvote. If you would like to issue an appeal, shoot me a private message explaining what I got wrong. I tend to respond to Lemmy PMs within several minutes. Do note, however, that over 99.9% of downvote appeals are rejected, and yours is likely no exception.
How can I prevent this from happening in the future?
Accept the downvote and move on. But learn from this mistake: your behavior will not be tolerated on Lemmy. I will continue to issue downvotes until you improve your conduct.
Because some people in the US don’t even leave their county, let alone their state, and therefore never experience any culture outside their own.
