I keep talking about the Fediverse as a whole to anyone willing to listen. I may not move the masses, but if I can convince even a couple of my friends to give Lemmy, Mastodon or any other open source federated platform a try, I consider that a win.

Just letting people know Lemmy exists is a contribution to its adoption. It’s especially useful to let people know there are alternatives when a big platform has an exodus of users, be it due to poor moderation, a failed acquisition attempt, or any other kind of drama, since that’s when they’re most willing to migrate permanently.

My plan is to recommend Lemmy whenever users complain about Reddit.

Fed up with popup to use Reddit app? Try Lemmy

    Reddit too slow? Try Lemmy

Dislike Reddit new design? Wink wink

    Etc

There is a few bugs I want to report when I have time. The UX needs to be improved a little bit (especially for comments), but I’m already talking about Lemmy to people ! Especially to french speaking people. I’d like to see more francophones here to be able to speak french more often.

There’s no major force pushing users to adopt federated software beyond privacy concerns and distrust for big tech. This means mass adoption won’t happen unless big tech collapses or gets regulated to death by forces external to the fediverse.

The only strategy I’ve seen articulated so far for federated social media is “be ready for when scraps will fall from the table of Big Tech”.

I’m not very good at it, but I hope by just using the platform, being active on both this instance and some others, and having my own little community (join !italianlearning@lemmy.ml) that it will help this place feel more alive and active, making it a more inviting place to join.

Note that unlike on walled garden, there are two ways of “adopting” Lemmy : creating an account there or interacting with Lemmy content from another fedi platform.
This is a major selling point for both ways

I like Lemmy more than Reddit and mention this to anyone who asks. I don’t have any plans for mass adoption of lemmy.

Happens to me too. Try searching for “https://lemmy.ml/c/fedivangelism” no quotes and press enter afterwards twice. If i press enter once, it doesn’t work
