They also forgot (or didn’t know) to mention the new Cinny client for Matrix which is precisely made to cater to Discord users, by having a familiarly looking interface and trying to bridge Matrix and Discord concepts.
Thank you for sharing! I didn’t know that client.
Link broken
It’s an amazing client that I’m recommending to my new-to-matrix friends.
Zulip! Everyone forgets Zulip! https://zulip.com/
Open source, self-hostable, paid+free zulip-hosting has pretty decent privacy policies.
Zulip seems to be more of a Slack alternative, like Rocket.chat. The “truest” Discord-like platform seems to be Revolt.
But both Zulip and Rocket are great platforms! Also Mattermost, but that is a bit too open-core for my taste.
Rocket-chat and Mattermost also have some homebrew federation, but afaik very barebones and experimental.
Interesting, thanks for sharing.
I am hearing about Zulip for the first time. I think you should create a separate post about it here.
There is new app called revolt
Discord is really bad for your privacy. They collect a lot of your data. They do not even allow you to register an account under Tor or VPNs, if you try to do so, they will block you and ask you for your phone number.
I suggest Revolt it’s open source
If I’m not wrong is FOSS. And selfhostable, it also can bridge with Discord and Matrix and they have E2EE planned. For the moment is a really beta thing but I think that when it will be full released it would be amazing. Also it would be amazing to see some kind of federation.
Been pretty happy with Matrix as an alternative. Anybody got a tl;dw?
They put a lot in the page description 😆
