A purchase, an app, a decision, anything
I recently made the conscious decision to accept people as they are, not to be disappointed when they don’t do or say what I hope for. I focus on their positive qualities and strengths.
That’s lovely
Thank you
I started keeping my phone in DND mode and only allow notifications from chat apps I use with people I know personally. I find that I’ve stopped checking my phone all the time and it’s been a huge quality of life improvement for me.
Same! Been on DND since 2017, couldn’t recommend it enough!
Exactly the same on my iPad
What is DND mode?
do not disturb
Before you gave the definition I thought it was some kind of special Dungeons&Dragons mode for mobile phones. Not sure how that would look like.
ha!
“Received a text from your ex, roll for initiative”
This is my first post. Hello!
I started keeping alarms for common things like brushing, eating lunch and dinner, work-time-ends, etc. It has helped me do things more consistently.
Welcome! Hope you have a nice stay :3
Thank you :)
🤗 welcome!
thank you :)
Hello there debian guy!
hey there
Consuming less, thus creating less garbage
I’ve been thinking to do this but it is distant and difficult. Hope I can get to it sooner.
install linux 🙂
same!
also installing xfce
I’ve been wanting to too, if you don’t mind me asking which distro did you install and did you have any problems with it ?
Linux Mint. didnt go as smoothly as usual cuz i tried installing Arch linux first, which failed and kinda messed up my system, so I gave that up and went for mint. Just follow the instructions & all should be good.

It sure helps me when I feel like having a shower in the morning. All it takes is to force yourself to get out of bed and walk the short distance to the bathroom. Then, in about 2 minutes after you wake up, you are completely awake, full of energy and (at least in my case) happy and ready for the day. No more morning grogginess, fatigue or grumpiness that it is morning again. I would encourage you to try it. It might not work for you, but if it does, it changes mornings completely.
Packing a lunch. It gets so expensive not too especially if you’re at a place where everyone does it. I’d rather grab a couple granola bars and a soda on the way out the door then buy lunch at this point even if I’m famished when I get home
Homemade food ftw
This is good. Eating expensive lunch in a hurry is a waste anyways. Also it’s probably healthier to pack something.
Putting items back in a spot dedicated for them. I do this for damn near every item I own (I have an Excel inventory of most of the things I own and where they are stored).
I can’t remember the last time I actually lost something for good. Of course, not going out nearly as much over the last 2 years because of COVID played a role in that but it’s so nice to generally not have to worry about losing things. Plus it helps keep the place tidy.
(I have an Excel inventory of most of the things I own and where they are stored).
I have been personally wondering if this is a good idea/worth it. Since I’m moving to a new place in… ~oh wow it’s about two weeks now~, it will be possible to get this started without excluding anything that’s rarely used.
Any advice, or is it pretty straight-forward?
I think it’s worth it for some items, and not worth it for others. It’s one of those things where one really has to develop a system tailored for their own usage of items.
For me personally, I try to make sure any of my electronics/tech stuff that I don’t use frequently is stored in a box with a corresponding Excel sheet. This includes an inventory of cables and power chargers too, with things like quantity, brand, cable length, etc.
For other items that I use more frequently, I don’t add them to the Excel sheet because constantly having to check out/check in items would be a huge pain in the ass.
Setting up RSS to automatically notify me of new posts on my moderated communities.
Do you just open an rss reader every morning to read the updates or do you have some other way to get notified?
I have my RSS reader (
emacs
newsticker
) opened by StumpWM everytime I boot. It works for now; but I think I eventually will just go and configure my .stumpwmrc to “fix” that.deleted by creator
It’s a program that I noticed first and it’s included in emacs by default.
A nice cordless vacuum was a game-changer for me. The ability to just grab it and vacuum is great. I always feel like plugging it in makes it an annoying logistics project so I end up blowing it off, especially for places without a convenient plug.
Vacuum wars on YouTube is great for unbiased reviews. I got the Tineco A-10D for $100 and it’s really solid. Not a replacement for a plug-in vacuum though. The $250+ Range is more suited to be your one and only vacuum.

SO MUCH THIS!
The easier it is to start doing a chore or task, the much better it is to do. As another example, my current apartment’s washroom is designed to get completely wet - My toilet basically gets cleaned every shower because of how easy it is to spray it down!
Yes. And a steam mop.
Do you have a rec in the 250+ range?
Yeah the Shark IZ462H Vertex is the recommendation for that range. It can be had for $350 new or it is currently on sale for $240 used on an amazon warehouse deal.

That’s a good vid where I found the recommendation. Vacuum wars is top notch.
Stopped drinking coffee. You would not believe how much positive impact it had on my life.
How much coffee did you drink before?
too much :)
How so?
It became easier to sleep or to focus, after an adjustment period of 1-2 weeks. Also I was getting agitated from too much caffeine, which was a huge red flag.
hmm maybe I should try that
I recommend it!

lmao, based stalin appreciator
For me, it was buying a Robot Vacuum.
I always noticed I slept better in a clean environment. I bought an air purifier and it made a small difference, but when I bought a robot vacuum my life changed. Finally, my floors were clean every day and there was no dust build up.
I did extensive research on them, if you opt for it I recommend anything by Roborock. When you consider the price of a good normal vacuum, you quickly see how good of a deal robot cleaners are
do they make one that doesn’t have any internet connectivity “features”?
their models i just looked at all mention “app control” which sounds like an indicator that you might be denied some important functionality you don’t login with facebook or something like that.
I did some quick research because I wouldn’t consider buying one that needed wifi access or app control to work. It looks like some can work w/o ever being connected. The functions are limited like not being able to just clean a single room. Probably down to use case if you need the app functions or not.
Edit: If anyone has real experience it would be great to hear.
Except that you will still need a normal vacuum in addition. But yeah these robots look useful, but the price for good ones is really off-putting.
Unless you have stairs you don’t really need a normal one. You can also just handle stairs with a broom and let your little floor buddy clean it up :)
Well, not just stairs but also other weird crevices nooks and crannies. Also a normal vac will have mighty more suction. But yeah, I seldomly break out the big guy.
Stretching un the morning.
